Committee Mandate
The Subcommittee on Guideline Dissemination (SGD), a subcommittee of the Committee on Quality, establishes and coordinates the identification, prioritization, and management of dissemination activities for ASH guidelines. Members of the subcommittee have demonstrated experience and interest in guideline dissemination and represent diverse clinical expertise. The subcommittee interfaces with the Committee on Advancing Excellence and Population Health; Committee on Communications; Committee on Educational Affairs; Committee on Practice; Committee on Training; and the Trainee Council.
The subcommittee is tasked with identifying, facilitating, and evaluating dissemination strategies which aim to raise awareness and increase understanding of ASH guidelines and related quality efforts. Key guideline messages are identified by guideline panelists; target audiences include clinicians, patients, press, and policy makers. Prioritized activities to raise awareness can include press releases, social media campaigns, e-newsletters, and promotion at relevant educational meetings.
Dissemination strategies may include ASH apps, informational materials, features on the ASH website, social media, and inclusion in guideline repositories. Efforts to increase understanding of ASH guidelines and related quality efforts may include expert video interviews, educational webinars, podcasts, visual abstracts, teaching slide sets, pocket guides, presentation at educational meetings, online educational modules, and patient versions of the guidelines.
The subcommittee evaluates current dissemination strategies and target audiences with the goal of increasing efficiency, reach, and effectiveness. The subcommittee also identifies and leads new dissemination strategies, including development of guideline recommendation visualizations.
Members of the Subcommittee on Guideline Dissemination are required to participate in email discussions, regularly scheduled virtual conferences, and meet in person as deemed necessary. The chair and members of the subcommittee serve two-year, staggered terms with the option for renewal. The structure of the subcommittee includes liaison members from the Committee on Advancing Excellence and Population Health; Committee on Communications; Committee on Educational Affairs; Committee on Practice; Committee on Training; and the Trainee Council for terms congruent with service on the parent committee.
